Touristing, inkjet prints, 26 x 34”, 2018-2019
Touristing explores travel as
a unique space of contact with collective ideals. From my positionality as both an American tourist and profiting
“local guide” at Canada’s most visited places, I reinterpret these collective experiences
and reflect on the connections made between tourist and environment at a time
when our practices of snapshot photography have an ever-growing impact on the
landscape itself. This series shares the repetitive actions of engagement to
consider the way we situate ourselves within romanticized landmarks, reflecting
on the direct impact of imagery comprising the mythology of “going west”.
