Haeun Cho, Legacy Masks, 2024.

I was intrigued by how future generations and those living through the Covid-19 era would perceive photos from that time, where masks obscured expressions and emotions. Reflecting on black and white photos taken long before Covid-19, I considered how adding masks to pre-pandemic portraits would alter contemporary interpretations. Especially drawn to the plight of babies born during Covid-19, who must endure discomfort under masks and conceal their beautiful smiles, I selected images of infants and children from old black and white photos and sketched masks onto their faces.
